Life, or I guess this summer, has been really laid back and slow. It’s been great. I knew going into this summer that we didn’t have big plans and we’ve stuck to that. We sleep late, I work all day, the kids play with their friends or just hang out, then some nights we go to the pool and other nights we hang out and watch tv together. It’s seriously been great. Weekends are spent out of the house, but there has been plenty of days where we’ve hung out at home with just a trip to the pool to break it up. Bless community pools. It’s literally down the street and it’s never crowded in the evenings.
The kids and I watch movies and are working our way through tv shows, but I went about a month with nothing of my own to watch. Nothing to fill that couple hours of adult time after the kids go to bed. Netflix kept telling me to watch Glow, so I did. Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. Basically all in one day it was that good. Good combination of seriousness and funny. Now I’m back to having nothing to watch. I’m just waiting for the next season of like six shows to start. My luck, they’ll all pop up at the same time this fall and then I’ll watch them all at once. I do watch a lot of PBS, but I also have four PBS channels.
The little one and I did go see Newsies. Again. They filmed the play and showed it at the theater. They’ve showed it twice and we’ve seen it twice. We’ve got the movie at home, but who cares? It’s freaking great.
I’m really liking this rebrand. It’s been coming for a while (a long while), but figuring out blog names is kinda hard. Really freaking kinda hard. I would appreciate a Facebook follow though, especially if you already liked my Facebook page. I’ve got a new page for a new blog.
The big one turned 12. I know all parents wonder where the time goes, but it’s so true. He’s such a good kid and always has been. Mind you he’s 12, but he is know over 5’7″ and officially taller than me. He also has huge feet. It’s ridiculous. He’s a good head taller than all his friend. His voice is pretty deep too. He had a brief couple weeks of voice cracking, but it seems to mostly be gone and now he just sounds like a man. Overtime my sister calls and hears him in the background, she comments on how crazy it is that he sounds like that.
I think I mentioned it before, but for the last, I don’t know, 3 to 4 years, I’ve been having stomach issues. I guess you would call them attacks, but I get the worst abdominal pain ever. It’s like childbirth. I have to focus and breath through it. It’s not normal stomach stuff, but like my entire abdomen and back. After an especially bad episode in January, I finally went to the doctor. She thought it was my gallbladder and sent me to surgery. He didn’t think it was my gallbladder. I’ve since had all these tests done. Tests I’ve never heard of. Seven months later and we discovered a genetic disorder I have that effects my liver. Now that we know I have it, I’m going to get the kids checked for it and my mom was going to see if she has it. I’m not entirely sure this is causing my issues, but at least I know about it and can try to deal with it before the normal symptoms appear. It’s not my gallbladder though. We had enough tests done and it was determined to be fine and working normally. I must admit that I’ve had a great round of doctors. Military doctors sometimes suck, but these have all been serious about getting to the bottom of what’s going on, hence all the weird testing. I didn’t even know Nuclear Medicine was a thing, but I’m quite familiar with them now.
The kids still have a few weeks still school starts. We’ve got a few, small, weekend things planned and we still have to do our supply shopping. I did knock out the clothing and shoe shopping though. Kid’s shoes are expensive. Especially if you want them to last more than three weeks. On one hand I’m ready to get them out of the house and on the other, I’m going to miss the noise during the day. I listen to podcasts or music if it’s too quiet. I’m not going to miss having to announce to the house that I’m making a phone call or I’ve got a conference call and for them all to shut up.
