The holiday season is a time to be thankful, give thanks, and give back. We do our best to teach our kids this, by giving our time and money back to others. We want them to know that the holiday season isn’t all about them and the presents they receive. We want to teach them how good it can feel to give to others as well. The military and veteran organizations are the groups we normally like to give to. Some years, we don’t have the funds to make monetary donations though, so we think of other ways to give back. We’ve had single Marines over for holiday dinners, we have the kids pick out gifts to donate to Toys for Tots, we’ve volunteered with organizations like Toys for Tots, and we’ve baked goods for the military, from gate guards to the Marines in my husband’s unit.
Sometimes the little things do make a difference. When we were overseas, I did my best to keep my husband’s shop full of baked goods. There were a lot of young, single Marines in his shop, so I wanted them to get those little extras for the holidays, the things they may miss from home. Those were also the guys we invited over for holiday dinners. When the unit was deployed, the husband found out little things they wanted, mostly snacks, and I did my best to mail them all out for Christmas. This year, I’m not as familiar with everything here yet, so I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. The husband made a trip to the military hospital to talk to someone and ended up talking to a lot of the guys who were recovering from serious injuries. I decided we would bake cookies and he could take them back with him. With the kids help, I made ten dozen cookies. It took little money and an afternoon, but it’s something.
The MetLife TRICARE Dental Program also wishes you the best during the holidays! They think that one of the greatest joys of this season is the opportunity to say Thank You to all their military friends and family, especially for supporting the TRICARE Dental Program. Military members and their families are thankful for the healthcare they receive as a benefit, but not everyone is signed up or even aware of the great benefits the TRICARE Dental Program offers. Besides the normal two cleanings and exams per month, pregnant women are eligible for an extra third cleaning due to the elevated hormones during pregnancy which can increase the risk of gum disease, affecting the mother and baby’s health. The program also offers a Survivor Benefit. The family members of a deceased service member are eligible for coverage and the premiums are completely covered. It’s the extra benefits that make this even more special and shows how much Metlife is thankful for the military. With over 250,000 dental locations in network worldwide, there is sure to be a dentist near you.
