Friday was a half day of school, which means they get out at 11:35. I’m not sure what the point of going to school for two and a half hours is, but whatever. It’s still hot here, so I was trying to think of something fun to do outside. Something besides the beach. We ended up going to the Kurashiki Dam.
The Dam is actually pretty close to everything, but besides the signs, you would never know it was there. It’s also located right past a dump/landfill, but we must have been upwind since I never smelled anything nasty. And yes, there were many Wall-E references made about the trash.
The lake or whatever you want to call it, from the dam is huge. I don’t know if you can swim in it, but I wasn’t about to try. Thankfully, there is a smaller area set up for kids. I made sure to pack swimsuits and they had a blast!
A small museum is located nearby. It’s kid friendly and has a couple displays having to do with water and electricity. It was all in Kanji, so I’m not exactly sure what they were about. There is also a small movie they show, discussing conserving water, the dragon king, and how he brings the rain. At one point during the show, a dragon drops down a little bit from the ceiling. Any kid would love that.
It was a fun afternoon that cost me nothing. Those are seriously the best kind. As long as the kids have fun!
