I love long weekends!
Sunday, a friend and I went to a Cherry Blossom festival. Too bad the trees weren’t really blooming yet! We had a great time though. The festival was located on Mt. Yaedake on the north end of the island. It took us forever to get there, but the views were great and well worth it.
We played a few games, eyed all the food and finally picked a few, new things to try, and looked at the booths selling plants and flowers. I love the fact that it’s January, but all the flowers are in bloom.
I finally ran into one of these toilets. I knew the day would come when I would have to use one, but I hadn’t seen one yet. The bathroom was at the festival and it was muddy out, which explains the nasty floor.
We had passed the Pineapple Park on the way to the festival, so we stopped on the way back. We paid the admission not knowing what we were doing. We go in, they hand us pineapples, take our picture, and we are off on a golf cart for a tour. The tour went through greenhouses full of pineapple plants.
After the tour, we went inside for the good part, sampling! They had 3 kinds of pineapple wine, maybe 4 or 5 kinds of pineapple juice, and tons of food. Everything was made with pineapples, but there was wine cake, sponge cake, hard candy, cookies, pickled pineapple, raw pineapple, jelly, pineapple filled pancakes, sea grapes (nothing to do with pineapples and he didn’t tell us it was seaweed till after we ate it), and more that I just can’t remember. For the most part everything was good, but we did try a few things that were just downright nasty.
That night, we all went out to dinner. Her hubby and mine went to the bar on base and we came home with the kids. Little Man wanted to show her how to play is Super Mario Bros game on Wii. We didn’t do much on Monday, but we did go out to dinner again. 2 nights in a week, let alone in a row, is a record for us! We went to the Macaroni Grill with some more friends. I almost felt like I was in the states again!
